On the third Sunday in July each year, the Festa del Redentore [Feast of the Redeemer] erupts in Venice – a sprawling public street party with fireworks and light shows all over the city.

The festival celebrates the end of the horrifying Bubonic plague that swept across the city in 1575 and claimed over 50,000 lives. The festival, which attracts visitors from around the world, takes place from July 14-16th this year and ends with a spectacular light show over the Venice canals.
