From sandy beaches to idyllic rocks.
Close to nature in north Stockholm
Brunnsviken beach has a jetty, rocks and several smaller grassy areas. For swimming fiends, there's also a swim float you can swim out to. As the location is surrounded by woods, it feels remote from big city stress but is actually pretty central and easily reached by metro. The closest metro station is Universitetet. You can also walk or cycle here from the city.
Rocks and picnic idyll
At Fredhäll on Kungsholmen you can slide into the water from the smooth and rounded rocks here. If you simply want to soak up the sun, the rocks overlooking a picnic spot are perfect. There are also sandwich and ice cream vendors nearby. The rocks are also a popular place to bring a pizza for a fast food evening meal as the sun goes down.

Central location for families with children
If you think summer isn't summer without a sandy beach, but you still want to feel the city vibe, Tantobadet in Årstaviken is the place for you. This beach on Södermalm is suitable for all ages. In addition to a cooling and relaxing beach, there's a jetty, sauna, climbing wall and diving platform. Its central location means it can quickly become packed on a hot summer day.
Cool pool
If you’re the kind of person who gets irritated by sand rather than ecstatic, you’ll appreciate Eriksdalsbadet in summer. Here, there’s both an indoor and an outdoor pool. If you forget to bring a padlock to keep your valuables safe in a locker here, you can buy one at reception.
Entry to the outdoor pool costs 80 SEK for adults and 20 SEK for children under 20 years.

Skip sand and beach
Oxhålsbadet at Stora Essingen is within easy reach by the number 1 bus, a frequent service that you can board from several bus stops in the city center. There are three large jetties here, all with steps down to the water. There's also plenty of grass and green areas to enjoy and find a place to sit. Plus, a BBQ point if you want to bring a picnic. Otherwise, there are several restaurants within walking distance.

Keep fit 15 minutes from the city center
Hellasgården by Lake Källtorpssjön offers numerous summer activities if the sun puts a spring in your step. This outdoor area has sauna, mini golf, bowls, petanque, softball, beach volleyball, paddling and orienteering. The popular café here is open all year round.
Day outing to Lidingö
Take the 204 bus towards Elfvik and get off at Fågelöudde, where you’ll find an outdoor bathing area that offers plenty of water-based activities. Fågelöudde has a sandy beach, diving platform, beach volleyball net, swings, climbing frame, BBQ point and mini golf. There are parking facilities nearby if you come by car.

For those who want every option
If you want rock, sand and grass to choose from, Boobadet is the place to go. Here, you’ll find both a sandy beach, jetties, rocks and grass. Boobadet is a bit further out from the city center but easy to get to by public transport or car. Don't forget to bring a picnic and refreshments as finding these in the nearby area is a bit hit and miss.
Sporty sandy beach
Flatenbadet, a bit outside the city, offers a full day of sports activities. Here, you’ll find an outdoor gym, mini golf, tennis, canoe hire, beach volleyball and petanque. There's a long sandy beach for swimming plus diving platform. In the summer, there are various al fresco eateries to quell your tummy and quench your thirst.
